October 13, 2015 | Leave a comment We’re starting to get excited about the Fairer World Fair which this year will on Saturday 7 November 2015 10am – 2pm St George’s Church Hall, George St, Dumfries DG1 1EJ This year as well as all the amazing and inspiring gifts, crafts and foods from around the world, we’ll also be focussing on locally produced foods – especially those which use Fairtrade or fairly traded ingredients. So we’ll be featuring products from By Heck jams, Wee Sweetie sweeties and the Moniaive Chocolatier. We are also glad to welcome Wooden Toys – the new toy and gift shop in Dumfries (you can find it at the top of Great King St) – it’s great to have another shop selling fairly traded goods in the town. They will be joining the other stall holders – Oxfam, Second Nature, Traidcraft, The Galloway Eco-Store and the Edinburgh One World Shop for what’s going to be a great way to start start the Christmas shopping. And of course there will also be the cafe, with delicious soups and home baking. This year we are delighted that we can get locally produced milk from Roan’s Dairy (www.fresherthantheudders.co.uk ) for all those teas and coffees that we’ll be serving. There’s been a lot in the press recently about the idea of fair trade milk, and you can read the Fairtrade Foundation’s press release here http://fairtrade.org.uk/en/media-centre/news/august-2015/milk-protests . For those of us in a rural area where farming is vital to the local economy, it just makes complete sense to buy local whenever we can – both by buying local milk, cheese, vegetables, meat, etc and by choosing to shop in local independent shops. Local and Fair – it’s the only way to go.
