October 30, 2017 | Leave a comment Cakes and Baking at the Fairer World Fair The annual Fairer World Fair, organised by Dumfries Fairtrade Group, will be held on Saturday 4 November at St George’s Church Hall, George St, Dumfries, from 10am – 2pm. The highlight of the day will be cutting of a delicious cake – created by Annette’s Baking in a Box – currently featuring on Channel 4’s ‘My Kitchen Rules UK’. Annette Need has been sourcing Fairtrade ingredients for the cake, which will be cut at 12noon. Following that the there will be a cookery demonstration by – ‘Fanny and Johnny‘ whose culinary capers were a great success at the Dunscore Gala earlier in the year. Chair of the Dumfries Fairtrade Group, Rosemary Buwert said, “The annual Fairer World Fair is a showcase for many of the products that are available locally, and we also love to support local food producers and businesses, so it’s great to have Annette’s Baking in a Box as part of the day. And, if Annette’s cake inspires you , there will be a wide range of fairly traded and Fairtrade ingredients available for your Christmas baking, as well as lots of ‘foodie’ stocking fillers. It’s a wonderful opportunity to make a start on your Christmas shopping, and you can be sure that the people behind the products have received fair payment for their work and produce.” Other stalls will include fairly traded cosmetics; a range of products from Oxfam, and from Hadeel, the Palestinian shop in Edinburgh; Traidcraft foods, cards and crafts; bags and aprons from Senegal; and homewares sourced by Second Nature. As well as the wide range of gifts, foods and crafts on sale, there will also be the Café which will be serving teas, coffees, and home-baking, with soup available from noon; a display about the work of WaterAid; and information about the campaign for promoting Fairtrade in the region and across Scotland.
